The UK is grappling with a significant cyber security talent deficit across basic, intermediate, and advanced skills. This gap leaves businesses and critical infrastructure vulnerable to cyber threats.
Nearly half of all UK businesses are actively recruiting for roles requiring data skills including analysts, data scientists, and engineers. There are an estimated 178,000–234,000 vacancies nationwide according to Gov UK.
With a 50% rise in serious incidents this year, with four nationally significant attacks every week. That’s not hype; it’s the new normal. For businesses, cyber risk now sits alongside inflation and geopolitics as a top board concern.
With the slow influx of new, skilled talent and evolving technology needs, network professionals are in high demand across the UK. Particularly in communications infrastructure and network security.
According to Forbes a striking 93% of UK businesses report there is an IT skills gap in the jobs market with 81% of businesses reporting difficulties in filling IT roles. Start your IT career.
51% of UK employers consider hiring talent with AI skills a priority but 71% of those say they can’t find the talent they need. Get these in-demand skills and help close the skills shortage in the UK.
Project management is one of the largest professional job categories in the UK, with average advertised salaries of £54,780, over 41% above the national average. Plan, deliver and lead projects from start to finish.

Built with employers, for employers. Our programmes are designed around real job roles and current UK hiring needs – combining live labs, capstone projects, and industry-recognised certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, Forescout and more). You’ll learn the tools, workflows and standards teams actually use, coached by practitioners who’ve been there and done it.
From day one you’ll follow a clear pathway into roles like Cyber Analyst, Data Analyst, Ethical Hacker, Network Engineer, AI Engineer or IT Helpdesk. Expect hands-on training, real-world project work, expert career support (CV, interview prep), and a job-ready skillset that lets you add value from your first week on the job.
We’re proud to see our learners progress into roles with recognised organisations including the NHS, Ocado, Octopus Energy, Fujitsu, BT, Sky, Barclays, HSBC, Capgemini, HMRC, Darktrace, Quorum Cyber and more.

Tolu had already built a foundation in IT support, including an apprenticeship as a Digital Support Technician with Go-Centric Limited in Sunderland, before deciding he wanted to specialise in cyber security. He knew he had the aptitude for it, but general support experience alone wasn’t enough to be taken seriously for dedicated cyber security roles. He needed recognised, industry-standard certifications behind him.
Tolu completed Newto Training’s Cyber Security career programme, earning CompTIA Security+ and Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900). Alongside the certification training, we worked with him on his CV and job search approach, helping him position his support background and new certifications together for the roles he was applying for.
With his CV rebuilt and certifications in place, Tolu applied for and secured a First Line Service Desk Analyst role at Pets at Home, initially on a 12-month fixed-term contract. He converted this to a permanent position within five months, after a successful three-month probation.
He didn’t stop there. Whilst working as a Service Desk Analyst, Tolu kept studying and went on to pass CompTIA CySA+, building directly on the foundation from his Newto training. That continued investment, combined with the reputation he’d built on the service desk, earned him the opportunity to move into Pets at Home’s Information Security team as a Security Engineer, supporting detection, triage and remediation work day to day.
Tolu now works as a Security Engineer within Pets at Home’s Information Security team, the specialist role he originally set out to reach, built step by step from a service desk role into a genuine cyber security career.

Ben spent five years as a Weapons Engineer in the Royal Navy Submarine Service, developing a strong technical and leadership foundation in one of the most demanding environments the military has to offer. When he left the Navy, he was determined to bring that discipline, technical grounding and physical security mindset into a career in cyber security.
Ben completed Newto Training’s Cyber Security career programme, earning Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), CompTIA Security+, and CompTIA CySA+. Alongside the certification training, we rebuilt his CV to properly translate his Royal Navy experience, his leadership, his physical security discipline, his composure under pressure, into language that lands with cyber security hiring managers, and supported him through his job search and interview preparation.
Ex-military candidates with recognised cyber security certifications are in real demand, and Ben felt that directly. Armed with his new qualifications and a CV that finally did justice to his Navy background, he had multiple offers to weigh up, and chose to join Cyberbridge Services as Associate Technical Director.
Ben's Feedback
“I chose Newto’s cybersecurity course. I started from scratch. With the help of Newto Training, I managed to write a CV and get a job - and I'm actually in my first week of a job now. The staff at Newto Training are always a phone call away or an email away. No question was too stupid, too easy, too hard. They're a really good bunch helping me find a job in IT. If you are new to IT like me - Newto Training is the company for you.”
Secured Compliance Caseworker role — May 2026
“Honestly, the CV rebuild was the biggest game changer for me. It was the first time I properly understood how to structure my experience around key achievements instead…”
Quayem joined the programme with a clear ambition to move into a data-focused career, building on his existing technical background in SQL and Power BI. However, despite his skills and previous experience, he had spent almost two years struggling to secure consistent interviews and break into a highly competitive data job market.
He joined the programme to strengthen his technical profile, gain recognised certifications, and improve his job applications.
Despite a strong technical foundation in tools such as SQL and Power BI, Quayem faced several barriers when applying for data roles:
He also highlighted how competitive the entry-level market had become, making it difficult to stand out without additional structured support and recognised credentials.
Quayem completed structured training across key data tools and methodologies, including SQL, Python, Power BI, and data analysis fundamentals via DataCamp and supported learning platforms.
He achieved the following certifications, passing all first time, Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) and CompTIA Data+
Alongside this, he completed multiple hands-on projects in data visualisation and exploratory analysis across real-world datasets, strengthening both his technical ability and portfolio.
Following completion of his training, he then moved into the recruitment support phase, which included:
Quayem highlighted the CV restructuring process as the most impactful element, particularly the focus on key achievements and how experience was reframed for industry expectations.
Following structured support, Quayem secured a role as a Compliance Caseworker at HMRC, with the offer confirmed on 12 May 2026.
This marks a successful transition into a structured professional environment, where he now applies analytical thinking, data handling, and compliance-based decision-making in his role.
Quayem's Feedback
“Honestly, the CV rebuild was the biggest game changer for me. It was the first time I properly understood how to structure my experience around key achievements instead of just listing what I had done. Doing the certifications and projects gave me real proof of my skills. Before that, I could say I knew SQL or Power BI, but now I actually had something to back it up, which made a huge difference in interviews. The support really helped me become more focused and confident when applying for roles and explaining my experience. It changed how I approach the job market completely.”
